Santo Domingo (Kewa) Pottery

Santo Domingo Pueblo is one of the largest pueblos in New Mexico and home to accomplished potters (and jewelry makers). Contemporary pottery from the pueblo is known by the same hallmarks as its historic wares: Santo Domingo pottery features a lovely buff-colored clay with a light cream finish, painted with black and often polychrome designs. Stylistically, potters in the tribe tend to stick to traditional designs, which include geometric shapes with excellent use of negative space, intricate birds, and flowers with leaves. Since 2009, the pueblo has been officially known by their traditional name, Kewa Pueblo.
