Contemporary Pueblo Pottery

Native American pottery created today at the Pueblos of New Mexico and the Hopi Pueblo of Arizona has come a long way from its original, functional roots as cooking and storage vessels. Contemporary American Indian potters have taken their art form to dazzling heights while still keeping the traditions of form and aesthetics of their pueblo’s pottery style. While all pueblos have a history of making pottery, certain pueblos stand out as having artists that are true innovators of this art form, especially Acoma, Cochiti, Hopi, Santa Clara, and San Ildefonso pueblos. Many of these potters are stars in their own right, creating works sought after by collectors worldwide.
